More about this artwork

"Evening Is Coming" by Kęstutis Jauniškis is a captivating painting that uses a vivid and dynamic color palette to instill feelings of a settling evening. The most striking aspect of the painting is the predominant use of rich, warm reds and oranges, which spread across the canvas in horizontal swathes, suggesting a sprawling, expansive landscape. These bold colors could be interpreting the dramatic and intense hues that often accompany the setting sun.The painting gracefully blends these warm tones with splashes of cooler blues and subtle grays, which might be reflective pools of water or breaks in the terrain, contributing to a sense of depth and texture. The sky, painted in light blues and soft whites, conveys the transition time where daylight begins to give way to dusk. The landscape is abstract, giving the viewer freedom to interpret the scene; it could be a representation of fields, a desert, or an abstract expression of emotional landscapes. The artist uses color and form to evoke a feeling of vastness and the quiet power of nature as day slowly shifts into night. The horizon is barely defined, perhaps by a thin strip of darker color or a slight change in hue, enhancing the painting's abstract nature.Overall, "Evening Is Coming" is a compelling piece that encourages the audience to feel and reflect rather than presenting a direct narrative, embodying the emotion and tranquility of an evening descending over a vivid, limitless landscape.

Kęstutis Jauniškis was born in Lithuania in 1961. He studied economy at Vilnius University and graduated in 1985 with a degree in MA. While studying economy, the artist also attended the Vilnius Academy of Fine Arts and graduated in 1986. As an artist, Kestutis Jauniskis is interested in architectural forms and colour, and their relationship with their surroundings. In his paintings, reality is sometimes mixed with fantasy, which infuses a poetic touch into this rational world. It is in these scenes that Kestutis Jauniskis finds the shapes, colours, light and sky that evoke an emotional response in him, making him want to record them. The abstraction of his painting best represents the depth of feeling he has when viewing this real world that surrounds us, finding beauty in what others may consider ugly or mundane. At the same time, the artist likes to experiment with new abstract forms and objects. His work has been exhibited in Finland and Lithuania. He has participated in a group exhibition titled 'The Modern Lithuanian Art' at the Museum of Modern Art in Valencia, Spain.
