More about this artwork

"Landscape 7" by Kęstutis Jauniškis presents a visually striking abstract landscape that plays with layers and textures to evoke depth and emotion. The painting features a vast, open sky that dominates a significant portion of the composition, transitioning from a soft blue to a mild off-white, suggesting a vastness that might reflect a serene or contemplative mood. The layered approach beneath the sky captures rolling fields or plains, rendered in rich, earthy tones of browns, oranges, and subtle hints of red.The application of paint appears thick and intentional, enabling the texture to contribute almost as much to the painting's expression as the colors themselves. This texture brings a tactile element that suggests the ruggedness or harsh beauty of the landscape. In the lower parts of the painting, one can see small, abstract figures or marks that might signify human or natural elements, such as trees or people, adding a subtle hint of life and activity to the otherwise tranquil expanse. These elements are small enough to maintain the focus on the landscape's vastness while providing a sense of scale and life.Overall, Jauniškis crafts a landscape that traverses beyond literal interpretation, inviting viewers to dwell in its emotive color palette and the rich textures that suggest rather than delineate the natural world.

Kęstutis Jauniškis was born in Lithuania in 1961. He studied economy at Vilnius University and graduated in 1985 with a degree in MA. While studying economy, the artist also attended the Vilnius Academy of Fine Arts and graduated in 1986. As an artist, Kestutis Jauniskis is interested in architectural forms and colour, and their relationship with their surroundings. In his paintings, reality is sometimes mixed with fantasy, which infuses a poetic touch into this rational world. It is in these scenes that Kestutis Jauniskis finds the shapes, colours, light and sky that evoke an emotional response in him, making him want to record them. The abstraction of his painting best represents the depth of feeling he has when viewing this real world that surrounds us, finding beauty in what others may consider ugly or mundane. At the same time, the artist likes to experiment with new abstract forms and objects. His work has been exhibited in Finland and Lithuania. He has participated in a group exhibition titled 'The Modern Lithuanian Art' at the Museum of Modern Art in Valencia, Spain.
