More about this artwork

The painting "Summery Motive" by Kęstutis Jauniškis features a beautifully surreal and stylized landscape, which evokes a dream-like serenity balanced with vibrant elements of life and nature. The top of the painting is dominated by a spacious sky, transitioning from a turbulent grey cloud cover into a calm, lighter horizon. Below the sky is a tranquil body of blue water that stretches across the middle segment, perhaps indicating a lake or a calm sea. This water body subtly mirrors the sky and seems to create a natural divide between the sky and the land. The land itself consists of two distinct parts. In the foreground, there are abstract, somewhat geometrical, representation of three buildings. These three structures are painted with intense warm tones—earthy oranges and browns—which contrast sharply with the cool blues of the water. Their surfaces are textured, giving an impression of aged or weathered façades. On each side of these buildings rise two unusual trees, portrayed with glowing pink tops, akin to blossoms or perhaps whimsical interpretations of tree crowns, tethered to slender trunks. These trees add a fantastical element to the scene, lending an almost magical vibe.In the distance, past the water, lies a subtle landscape, possibly a hill or a distant shore, rendered in more muted tones compared to the vibrant foreground.

Kęstutis Jauniškis was born in Lithuania in 1961. He studied economy at Vilnius University and graduated in 1985 with a degree in MA. While studying economy, the artist also attended the Vilnius Academy of Fine Arts and graduated in 1986. As an artist, Kestutis Jauniskis is interested in architectural forms and colour, and their relationship with their surroundings. In his paintings, reality is sometimes mixed with fantasy, which infuses a poetic touch into this rational world. It is in these scenes that Kestutis Jauniskis finds the shapes, colours, light and sky that evoke an emotional response in him, making him want to record them. The abstraction of his painting best represents the depth of feeling he has when viewing this real world that surrounds us, finding beauty in what others may consider ugly or mundane. At the same time, the artist likes to experiment with new abstract forms and objects. His work has been exhibited in Finland and Lithuania. He has participated in a group exhibition titled 'The Modern Lithuanian Art' at the Museum of Modern Art in Valencia, Spain.
