More about this artwork

The painting titled "Tree With White Birds" by Kęstutis Jauniškis features a stark and somewhat minimalist landscape dominated by broad, sweeping planes of color. The sky occupies the upper section of the canvas and is rendered in different shades of blue, broken by soft, wispy clouds that impart a sense of depth and expansiveness. In sharp contrast, the lower portion presents a dry, flat terrain executed in earthen tones ranging from light tan to deeper browns, which conjures a sense of vast, open space.A slender, delicate white tree stands at the center, bridging the expansive sky and the earthly terrain below. It's sparsely adorned with fine white branches, upon which rest subtle hints of white birds. The simplicity of the tree and the birds are accentuated by the broad swatches of color and texture around them, creating a focal point that is both serene and poignant.Flanking the tree, two structural forms suggest buildings or walls. To the left, a neutral, possibly whitewashed surface provides a subtle background, while to the right, a vivid orange structure offers a stark juxtaposition. This bright, warm color not only draws the eye but also infuses the scene with a dynamic element, perhaps suggesting the presence of human life or activity adjacent to the natural scene.Overall, the composition is balanced yet dynamic, conveying a scene of quietude interspersed with life, framed by the infinite sky above and the earth below.

Kęstutis Jauniškis was born in Lithuania in 1961. He studied economy at Vilnius University and graduated in 1985 with a degree in MA. While studying economy, the artist also attended the Vilnius Academy of Fine Arts and graduated in 1986. As an artist, Kestutis Jauniskis is interested in architectural forms and colour, and their relationship with their surroundings. In his paintings, reality is sometimes mixed with fantasy, which infuses a poetic touch into this rational world. It is in these scenes that Kestutis Jauniskis finds the shapes, colours, light and sky that evoke an emotional response in him, making him want to record them. The abstraction of his painting best represents the depth of feeling he has when viewing this real world that surrounds us, finding beauty in what others may consider ugly or mundane. At the same time, the artist likes to experiment with new abstract forms and objects. His work has been exhibited in Finland and Lithuania. He has participated in a group exhibition titled 'The Modern Lithuanian Art' at the Museum of Modern Art in Valencia, Spain.
