More about this artwork

"The Feeling of Space" by Kęstutis Jauniškis is a subtle yet compelling piece that draws on minimalist and abstract tendencies to evoke a serene and contemplative atmosphere. The painting features a central, geometric figure—a prism-shaped structure with its faces tinted in different shades, like red and blue, hinting at different light sources or perspectives. Standing isolated against a vast, textured backdrop that sweeps across the composition, this main form might symbolize solitude or introspection. On the right side of the canvas, a delicate vine or plant grows, tethered to a thin, vertical line that might symbolize growth, connection, or a lifeline in an otherwise sparse environment. The background blends warm and cool tones, creating a sense of expansive open space—perhaps the "space" referred to in the title. This could be interpreted as a metaphorical representation of emotional or psychological space. The overall mood is quiet and reflective, with the play of colors and subtle details inviting viewers to pause and ponder the relationships between space, solitude, and growth. The painting, with its abstract form and evocative use of color and structure, effectively touches on the deep layers of human emotion and the existential journeys that each person might undertake.

Kęstutis Jauniškis was born in Lithuania in 1961. He studied economy at Vilnius University and graduated in 1985 with a degree in MA. While studying economy, the artist also attended the Vilnius Academy of Fine Arts and graduated in 1986. As an artist, Kestutis Jauniskis is interested in architectural forms and colour, and their relationship with their surroundings. In his paintings, reality is sometimes mixed with fantasy, which infuses a poetic touch into this rational world. It is in these scenes that Kestutis Jauniskis finds the shapes, colours, light and sky that evoke an emotional response in him, making him want to record them. The abstraction of his painting best represents the depth of feeling he has when viewing this real world that surrounds us, finding beauty in what others may consider ugly or mundane. At the same time, the artist likes to experiment with new abstract forms and objects. His work has been exhibited in Finland and Lithuania. He has participated in a group exhibition titled 'The Modern Lithuanian Art' at the Museum of Modern Art in Valencia, Spain.
