More about this artwork

The painting "Summer Breeze" by Kęstutis Jauniškis features a serene, almost dreamlike seascape. At the forefront of this work, two prominent houses take center stage; one is painted in a vivid red and the other in a muted grey. These eye-catching structures stand bold and solid amid a gently undulating environment that suggests a coastal scene. The landscape around the buildings is rendered in soft tones of gold and beige, implying sandy beaches warmed under a summer sky. In contrast, the horizon is dominated by a crisp blue sea that stretches across the canvas, divided from the sky by an even lighter shade of blue, almost merging with the pale, airy color of the sky. This tranquil portrayal of the natural world is subtly animated by small figures in the distance and several birds in flight, adding a sense of life and activity. These elements suggest the easy, leisurely pace of seaside life under a summer breeze. The overall effect is calming and contemplative, inviting the viewer to immerse in the quiet beauty and the simple pleasures of a summer day by the sea.

Kęstutis Jauniškis was born in Lithuania in 1961. He studied economy at Vilnius University and graduated in 1985 with a degree in MA. While studying economy, the artist also attended the Vilnius Academy of Fine Arts and graduated in 1986. As an artist, Kestutis Jauniskis is interested in architectural forms and colour, and their relationship with their surroundings. In his paintings, reality is sometimes mixed with fantasy, which infuses a poetic touch into this rational world. It is in these scenes that Kestutis Jauniskis finds the shapes, colours, light and sky that evoke an emotional response in him, making him want to record them. The abstraction of his painting best represents the depth of feeling he has when viewing this real world that surrounds us, finding beauty in what others may consider ugly or mundane. At the same time, the artist likes to experiment with new abstract forms and objects. His work has been exhibited in Finland and Lithuania. He has participated in a group exhibition titled 'The Modern Lithuanian Art' at the Museum of Modern Art in Valencia, Spain.
