More about this artwork

Delve into the vibrant interplay of shapes and colors in Georges Valmier's captivating work, "Cubist Composition," created in 1920. As a stunning exhibit of Cubist art, this painting invites viewers into a fragmented reality where every angle tells a story. In "Cubist Composition," Valmier masterfully organizes a variety of geometric shapes and blocks of color that seem to float and overlap against a bold blue background, creating an energetic and dynamic composition. Shades of yellow, green, white, and hints of pink and gray coalesce, forming an abstract yet harmonious visual field. Thin, delicate lines, both curved and straight, add a sense of motion and continuity, guiding the eye through the myriad forms and layers that compose the scene. This painting is a prime example of Cubism's revolutionary approach to perspective and representation. Valmier breaks down traditional visual elements and reassembles them in a way that challenges our perceptions of depth and space. The result is a thought-provoking piece that stimulates the imagination and invites interpretation from each unique viewer."Cubist Composition" is more than a visual spectacle; it is a testament to the daring and innovation of Georges Valmier, a pioneer who contributed significantly to the evolution of modern art.

Georges Valmier (11 April 1885 – 25 March 1937) was a French painter. His work encompassed the great movements in the modern history of painting, starting with Impressionism in his early years, then Cubism which he discovered when he was around 25 years old, and finally Absstractionism from 1921. He also designed sets and costumes for theater and ballet, and models for fabrics, carpets, and other objects. His oil paintings do not exceed 300 in number, since Valmier died prematurely at the age of 51. His paintings were the culmination of many preparatory drafts in gouaches, multiple versions of which are works in themselves and reflect his penchant for colors and inventive shapes. Valmier was also a musician. He performed the works of Debussy, Ravel, Fauré, and Satie at major concerts and in churches, and had a decisive influence on the career of André Jolivet.
