More about this artwork

07" (1930) by Georges Valmier"Decors et Couleurs Pl.07" is a compelling artwork by the French Cubist artist Georges Valmier, created in 1930. This painting is a fine example of Valmier's unique approach to abstraction, demonstrated through its vibrant and geometric composition. The artwork is divided into three primary segments, each adorned with a rich assortment of shapes and patterns, presenting a vivid exploration of color and form.In the top-left quadrant of the painting, dynamic zigzag and curved forms intersect, presented in bold shades of black, red, and blue, accentuated by softer tones and white wisps that suggest movement within a confined space. The top-right quadrant features an assortment of geometric and organic shapes, including circles, triangles, and eye-like figures, arranged in a balanced yet dynamic tableau that uses shades of gray, purple, green, and orange to create a sense of depth and interaction. The bottom section contrasts sharply with the upper elements through its horizontal orientation and mechanistic motifs, including cog-like circles and overlapping angular forms. The color palette here is cooler with blues, whites, and grays, punctuated by detailed patterns and lines that provide a rhythmic cadence to the piece.Overall, "Decors et Couleurs Pl.07" exemplifies Valmier's mastery in orchestrating complex compositions that are both aesthetically pleasing and thought-provoking.

Georges Valmier (11 April 1885 – 25 March 1937) was a French painter. His work encompassed the great movements in the modern history of painting, starting with Impressionism in his early years, then Cubism which he discovered when he was around 25 years old, and finally Absstractionism from 1921. He also designed sets and costumes for theater and ballet, and models for fabrics, carpets, and other objects. His oil paintings do not exceed 300 in number, since Valmier died prematurely at the age of 51. His paintings were the culmination of many preparatory drafts in gouaches, multiple versions of which are works in themselves and reflect his penchant for colors and inventive shapes. Valmier was also a musician. He performed the works of Debussy, Ravel, Fauré, and Satie at major concerts and in churches, and had a decisive influence on the career of André Jolivet.
