More about this artwork

12 by Georges Valmier"The canvas of Georges Valmier, a master of Cubist artistry, erupts into a symphony of geometric forms and contrasting hues in his 1930 work, "Collection décors et couleurs Pl.12". This painting serves as a pivotal exploration of abstract design, inviting the viewer into a world where line, shape, and color intersect with rhythm and precision.Valmier's composition is a meticulous arrangement of circular and angular shapes that nestle together in a patchwork-like format, each segment vibrantly distinct yet harmoniously united. The use of muted earth tones, alongside bold blacks and striking reds, guides the eye across the painting, creating a dynamic visual experience that pulses with movement. Smaller patterns of checks and spirals within the segments add layers of depth and intrigue, suggesting a deeper complexity beneath the surface simplicity. This artwork exemplifies Valmier's contribution to the Cubist movement and his unique flair for integrating architectural precision with abstract beauty. "Collection décors et couleurs Pl.12" not only reflects the aesthetic trends of the early 20th century but also embodies a timeless appeal that resonates with contemporary lovers of abstract art.

Georges Valmier (11 April 1885 – 25 March 1937) was a French painter. His work encompassed the great movements in the modern history of painting, starting with Impressionism in his early years, then Cubism which he discovered when he was around 25 years old, and finally Absstractionism from 1921. He also designed sets and costumes for theater and ballet, and models for fabrics, carpets, and other objects. His oil paintings do not exceed 300 in number, since Valmier died prematurely at the age of 51. His paintings were the culmination of many preparatory drafts in gouaches, multiple versions of which are works in themselves and reflect his penchant for colors and inventive shapes. Valmier was also a musician. He performed the works of Debussy, Ravel, Fauré, and Satie at major concerts and in churches, and had a decisive influence on the career of André Jolivet.
