More about this artwork

Dive into the mesmerizing world of Georges Valmier with his 1930 masterpiece "Collection decors et couleurs Pl.16." This captivating painting is a brilliant showcase of Valmier's abstract and geometric art style, marking his prominent contribution to the Cubist movement, albeit with a unique, decorative twist. The artwork is a complex assembly of patterns and designs scattered across a series of panels, each distinct yet harmoniously interconnected. Valmier's use of bold, clean lines and vibrant colors crafts a visual symphony that plays with perception and depth. The top left panel features spirals and geometric leaf-like shapes in a muted palette juxtaposed against a series of playful, circular motifs set against a richly patterned background in the top right panel. Below these, the motifs evolve into arched, almost architectural forms, blending shades of blue, green, and brown with hints of bright orange and red, adding a pulse of energy to the subdued tones. This painting is not just a visual treat but also an exploration of the rhythm and harmony within shapes and colors. Valmier's art transcends the typical boundaries of Cubism by incorporating decorative elements that suggest a fusion of art and design, making it a marvelous addition to any collection or exhibition focused on the evolution of modern art."Collection decors et couleurs Pl.

Georges Valmier (11 April 1885 – 25 March 1937) was a French painter. His work encompassed the great movements in the modern history of painting, starting with Impressionism in his early years, then Cubism which he discovered when he was around 25 years old, and finally Absstractionism from 1921. He also designed sets and costumes for theater and ballet, and models for fabrics, carpets, and other objects. His oil paintings do not exceed 300 in number, since Valmier died prematurely at the age of 51. His paintings were the culmination of many preparatory drafts in gouaches, multiple versions of which are works in themselves and reflect his penchant for colors and inventive shapes. Valmier was also a musician. He performed the works of Debussy, Ravel, Fauré, and Satie at major concerts and in churches, and had a decisive influence on the career of André Jolivet.
