More about this artwork
"Kat" (1880 - 1946) by Henri van der Stok is a striking example of woodcut art that skillfully captures the essence of its feline subject with bold contrasts and simplified forms. This piece portrays a black cat curled up, its sharp eyes and prominent whiskers highlighting a keen watchfulness. The cat's compact body and meticulous details in the fur and paws show a delicate interplay of light and shadow, achieved through the woodcut technique's characteristic carved lines. Van der Stok's signature and the print's date are subtly integrated, enhancing its historical context.
