More about this artwork

In the captivating painting "Evening Duet" by Russian artist Konstantin Alexeevich Korovin, a vivid scene of intimate and serene interaction is masterfully captured, highlighting the beauty of everyday moments. Set against a backdrop that combines both the comfort of an indoor setting with the refreshing presence of the outdoors, the painting portrays two figures possibly sharing a moment of music and conversation at dusk. The two central characters—a woman and a man—are depicted in an informal setting that exudes warmth and coziness. The woman, dressed in a flowing white garment, sits comfortably with a book in her lap, her attention seemingly shared between the book and the man beside her. The man, equipped with a classical guitar, appears to be in the middle of playing a tune or preparing to start one. His posture and expression suggest a casual yet focused involvement in his music. The use of vibrant colors and dynamic brushstrokes adds to the lively texture of the scene. A warm orange light from a lamp casts a soothing glow, enhancing the feeling of a cozy evening. Through the window, the cool tones of twilight contrast with the warm interior, suggesting the merging of two different worlds—the tranquil indoors and the mysterious allure of the evening outside.Korovin’s skillful blend of colors and fluid portrayal of light and shadow creates a rich atmosphere that draws viewers into this tranquil moment.

Konstantin Alekseyevich Korovin was a leading Russian Impressionist painter.

Konstantin was born in Moscow to a merchant family officially registered as "peasants of Vladimir Gubernia". His father, Aleksey Mikhailovich Korovin, earned a university degree and was more interested in arts and music than in the family business established by Konstantin's grandfather.
