More about this artwork

Nestled in the vibrant thrum of the City of Lights, "Nächtliches Paris" (Nighttime Paris) by Konstantin Alexeevich Korovin showcases a vivid, impressionistic glimpse into the nocturnal life of Paris. Painted in 1929, this masterpiece captures an ethereal study of light and color, breathing life into the urban landscape. The painting features a bustling Parisian street scene at night, luminous with a myriad of glowing lights that reflect playfully on the rain-dappled cobblestones. At the center stands a striking building, marked by a sign reading "HOTEL." Its warm, inviting windows stand in contrast to the surrounding darker tones of the adjacent buildings and the overcast twilight sky. Below, the lively street scene is animated with ephemeral figures; pedestrians clad in 1920s attire, some carrying umbrellas, wander and mingle, seemingly undeterred by the elements.Korovin's use of swift, expressive brush strokes adds a dynamic quality to the painting, suggesting movement and the fleeting nature of each moment. His application of color—from the deep greens of the sky to the vibrant orange and yellows of the illuminated hotel—creates a palpable sense of warmth and depth. This painting not only serves as a portal to the Paris of the past but also as a testament to the enduring allure of its nights, forever captured in Korovin’s emotive composition."Nächtliches Paris" invites viewers to lose themselves in the atmospheric beauty and vibrant energy of a city that, even in the quietest nights, is alive with light and movement.

Konstantin Alekseyevich Korovin was a leading Russian Impressionist painter.

Konstantin was born in Moscow to a merchant family officially registered as "peasants of Vladimir Gubernia". His father, Aleksey Mikhailovich Korovin, earned a university degree and was more interested in arts and music than in the family business established by Konstantin's grandfather.
