More about this artwork

"Evening Serenade" captures a moment of intimate artistry within a warmly lit interior. Created by the esteemed Russian painter Konstantin Alexeevich Korovin in 1916, this painting explores the world of personal expression through music and tranquil settings. In this evocative scene, the central figure, clad in a rich red blouse, engrosses themselves in the delicate strumming of a guitar. Their pose and expression are contemplative, as if lost in the music and the moment. The use of bold, vibrant color and fluid brushstrokes captures the mood of the evening, reflecting the intensity of the musical experience.Beside the musician, a large vase brimming with lush white flowers adds a contrasting softness to the composition, embodying the beauty and transient nature of life. These flowers, possibly roses, enrich the canvas with texture and depth, their petals seeming to burst forth from the vase with vitality. The background of the room opens up through a window to the blue hues of the twilight sky, suggesting the time of day as evening. This window not only floods the room with the dying light of day but also connects the indoor serenity with the outside world, enhancing the contemplative solitude of the musician.Konstantin Alexeevich Korovin’s "Evening Serenade" is more than just a portrayal of a musician at play; it is an exploration of atmosphere, emotion, and the universal language of music. Each stroke and color in this painting mesmerizes viewers, inviting them into a moment of peaceful introspection amidst the beautiful strains of a guitar.

Konstantin Alekseyevich Korovin was a leading Russian Impressionist painter.

Konstantin was born in Moscow to a merchant family officially registered as "peasants of Vladimir Gubernia". His father, Aleksey Mikhailovich Korovin, earned a university degree and was more interested in arts and music than in the family business established by Konstantin's grandfather.
