More about this artwork

"Paris By Night," a vibrant oil painting by Konstantin Alexeevich Korovin, invites viewers into an atmospheric scene of nocturnal Paris. This artwork exudes the lively spirit and charm of Parisian streets after dusk. In the scene, a cobblestone street gleams under the gentle caress of street lamps, reflecting the city's dynamic nightlife with every brushstroke. The painting features an angled view of a bustling street corner. Colorful signs such as "VINS-BAR" and various shopfronts, including a tobacco seller indicated by "TAB'P" and a grocer at "EPICERI," depict a thriving commercial area, inviting the viewer to immerse in this urban landscape. A lone pedestrian, possibly a gentleman in evening attire, graces the foreground, his figure casting a long shadow, adding a touch of mystery and movement to the scene.Above, moody skies and a few visible branches sway under the influence of a breezy passing wind, contrasted against a soft moonlit glow. The dynamic, almost impasto brushwork gives the scene a sense of immediacy and liveliness, transporting one straight into the heart of the City of Light.Korovin's mastery in capturing the essence of night through his potent color palette and expressive lighting wonderfully encapsulates why Paris is often romanticized as a city that comes alive in the night, offering never-ending inspiration for artists and dreamers alike.

Konstantin Alekseyevich Korovin was a leading Russian Impressionist painter.

Konstantin was born in Moscow to a merchant family officially registered as "peasants of Vladimir Gubernia". His father, Aleksey Mikhailovich Korovin, earned a university degree and was more interested in arts and music than in the family business established by Konstantin's grandfather.
