More about this artwork

Immerse yourself in the vibrant chaos and charm of "Paris by Night," a remarkable work by the Russian artist Konstantin Alexeevich Korovin, painted in 1904. This painting captures the essence of Parisian nightlife at the turn of the 20th century, with its bustling streets alive with color and energy. The composition of "Paris by Night" draws the viewer into a lively Parisian scene, illuminated by the vivid, glowing lights of cafes and street lamps. Korovin's use of bold, quick brush strokes conveys a sense of movement and excitement, reflecting the dynamic nature of the city. The palette is a blend of deep blues and lush greens, punctuated by bursts of bright colors from the garments of the pedestrians and the warm oranges and yellows of the city lights. The scene is likely set in a popular part of Paris, where people from all walks of life come together. The streets are teeming with activity; figures all around enjoy the pleasures of an urban evening—conversing, walking, or simply taking in the atmosphere. The brushwork is impressionistic, allowing the viewer's eye to meld colors and shapes into a coherent whole from a distance, yet up close, each stroke is a vibrant testament to the spontaneous moment captured on canvas.Korovin's "Paris by Night" does not just portray a location; it evokes the feeling of Paris itself—energetic, colorful, and ever-bustling with life.

Konstantin Alekseyevich Korovin was a leading Russian Impressionist painter.

Konstantin was born in Moscow to a merchant family officially registered as "peasants of Vladimir Gubernia". His father, Aleksey Mikhailovich Korovin, earned a university degree and was more interested in arts and music than in the family business established by Konstantin's grandfather.
