More about this artwork

Our latest exhibit highlights "Russian Village Under Snow," a captivating work by the esteemed Russian artist Konstantin Alexeevich Korovin, painted in 1915. This picturesque scene encapsulates the serene beauty and tranquil atmosphere of a snow-covered Russian countryside. The painting depicts a small, wooden village house, softened by a heavy layer of snow that glistens under a twilight sky. The earthy tones of the house and the warm golden hues of the sunset contrast beautifully with the cool blues and whites of the snowy landscape. The simplicity of rural life is brought to life through vivid textures and the intimate scale of the surroundings.Significantly, Korovin has included figures in traditional attire: a person sledding and a child nearby, adding a human element that invites viewers to ponder the daily life and conditions in such a harsh yet beautiful environment. The presence of these figures enhances the narrative of the painting, suggesting movement and life despite the deep chill suggested by the enveloping snow.Korovin's use of color and light not only highlights his mastery of the impressionist style but also evokes the emotional depth and serene beauty of the Russian landscape.

Konstantin Alekseyevich Korovin was a leading Russian Impressionist painter.

Konstantin was born in Moscow to a merchant family officially registered as "peasants of Vladimir Gubernia". His father, Aleksey Mikhailovich Korovin, earned a university degree and was more interested in arts and music than in the family business established by Konstantin's grandfather.
