More about this artwork

"Landscape With Yellow Fields" by Kęstutis Jauniškis is a serene and evocative painting that portrays a vast expanse of yellow fields beneath a wide, overarching sky. The artist uses a minimalist approach, focusing largely on the interplay of colors and the subtle textural details across the canvas. In the foreground of the painting, we see broad strokes of yellow, suggesting fields in bloom or ripe with harvest. These yellows are not monochromatic but variegated with shades of ochre, gold, and faint traces of green, lending depth and richness to the landscape. Small patches of red and blue sporadically placed across the fields add a touch of vibrancy and draw the eye, hinting at perhaps flowers or remnants of agricultural activity. The horizon is low, leaving a substantial portion of the canvas to the sky, which is painted in a calming gradient of light blues and whites. This creates a sense of openness and tranquility. This vastness of the sky contrasts subtly yet effectively with the earthiness of the fields. One of the distinguishing features of the painting is the row of thin, sparse trees or plants that punctuate the landscape on the right. These vertical elements, though small and seemingly fragile, introduce a sense of scale and life.

Kęstutis Jauniškis was born in Lithuania in 1961. He studied economy at Vilnius University and graduated in 1985 with a degree in MA. While studying economy, the artist also attended the Vilnius Academy of Fine Arts and graduated in 1986. As an artist, Kestutis Jauniskis is interested in architectural forms and colour, and their relationship with their surroundings. In his paintings, reality is sometimes mixed with fantasy, which infuses a poetic touch into this rational world. It is in these scenes that Kestutis Jauniskis finds the shapes, colours, light and sky that evoke an emotional response in him, making him want to record them. The abstraction of his painting best represents the depth of feeling he has when viewing this real world that surrounds us, finding beauty in what others may consider ugly or mundane. At the same time, the artist likes to experiment with new abstract forms and objects. His work has been exhibited in Finland and Lithuania. He has participated in a group exhibition titled 'The Modern Lithuanian Art' at the Museum of Modern Art in Valencia, Spain.
