More about this artwork

The painting titled "Poppie Fields" by Kęstutis Jauniškis presents a captivating abstraction of a landscape, possibly evoking the image of blooming poppy fields. The artist uses a vivid palette dominated by shades of red and orange, contrasted with subtle hints of blue, yellow, and white, which brighten and add depth to the composition. The work is vertically divided roughly into two unequal parts: a large expansive space filled with a soft, off-white hue that occupies the upper portion and a more intensely colored lower section, depicting the fields. The gentle fading of colors from the vibrant, detailed bottom to the almost empty top portion draws the viewer’s eye across the layers of paint and possible horizon lines. This dichotomy in the artwork could suggest a juxtaposition of emptiness and abundance or perhaps the transition between earth and sky. The relatively minimalistic and open space at the top might represent the vast sky, offering a calm counterpoint to the more dynamically colored land below.Jauniškis's use of texture adds an intriguing element; there are areas where the paint appears thickly applied, creating a tactile surface that invites closer inspection.

Kęstutis Jauniškis was born in Lithuania in 1961. He studied economy at Vilnius University and graduated in 1985 with a degree in MA. While studying economy, the artist also attended the Vilnius Academy of Fine Arts and graduated in 1986. As an artist, Kestutis Jauniskis is interested in architectural forms and colour, and their relationship with their surroundings. In his paintings, reality is sometimes mixed with fantasy, which infuses a poetic touch into this rational world. It is in these scenes that Kestutis Jauniskis finds the shapes, colours, light and sky that evoke an emotional response in him, making him want to record them. The abstraction of his painting best represents the depth of feeling he has when viewing this real world that surrounds us, finding beauty in what others may consider ugly or mundane. At the same time, the artist likes to experiment with new abstract forms and objects. His work has been exhibited in Finland and Lithuania. He has participated in a group exhibition titled 'The Modern Lithuanian Art' at the Museum of Modern Art in Valencia, Spain.
