More about this artwork

The painting "Summer Feeling" by Kęstutis Jauniškis presents a serene yet surreal landscape that conveys a dreamlike quality of summertime. This artwork features a dominating red structure on the left side, which contrasts strikingly with the expansive landscape stretching out beyond it. The wall of the structure serves as a canvas within the painting, bearing a chalky black square that hosts two abstract red flowers, suggesting a melding of natural and human-made elements. The landscape itself comprises gentle, rolling fields under a vast sky, painted in soft hues that create a warm, enveloping atmosphere. Presence of figures or other distinct features in the distance are minimal, save for isolated trees and possibly small buildings or structures that dot the horizon, adding a sense of scale and remoteness. On the horizon, a lone tree stands out with its pronounced, leafy canopy suggesting life and vitality amidst the sparse surroundings.Peering through the composition, the use of muted and warm color tones along with the flattening of the perspective induces a tranquil, time-suspended feeling. The piece beautifully captures the essence of summer with hints of movement in peaceful stillness, perhaps symbolizing memories or moments that linger in one’s mind long after the season has faded. Overall, Kęstutis Jauniškis's painting blends abstract and representational elements to evoke emotional and atmospheric resonance with the viewer, characteristic of his expressive artistic style.

Kęstutis Jauniškis was born in Lithuania in 1961. He studied economy at Vilnius University and graduated in 1985 with a degree in MA. While studying economy, the artist also attended the Vilnius Academy of Fine Arts and graduated in 1986. As an artist, Kestutis Jauniskis is interested in architectural forms and colour, and their relationship with their surroundings. In his paintings, reality is sometimes mixed with fantasy, which infuses a poetic touch into this rational world. It is in these scenes that Kestutis Jauniskis finds the shapes, colours, light and sky that evoke an emotional response in him, making him want to record them. The abstraction of his painting best represents the depth of feeling he has when viewing this real world that surrounds us, finding beauty in what others may consider ugly or mundane. At the same time, the artist likes to experiment with new abstract forms and objects. His work has been exhibited in Finland and Lithuania. He has participated in a group exhibition titled 'The Modern Lithuanian Art' at the Museum of Modern Art in Valencia, Spain.
