More about this artwork

"Zo starých Košíc," painted by Konštantín Bauer in 1928, catches a timeless moment from the quaint streets of Košice. Bauer’s brush captures the serene mood of an old town street, framed by the distinctive architecture that defines its historic aura. Immediate attention is drawn to the mellow palette of oranges, blues, and grays, suggesting the quietude of a late afternoon. Winding streets lead the eye through a deserted path lined by rustic homes, each possessing unique character under hushed light and shadow. The painting is accentuated with barren trees branching into the overcast sky, adding a touch of melancholy and depth. Shadows and highlights are masterfully balanced to evoke a sense of abandonment and peace, inviting the viewer to ponder the stories held within these walls. Bauer’s composition and use of subdued yet impactful colors encapsulate not just a place, but a feeling—a nostalgic echo of the past, preserved with every stroke. This depiction is more than just a cityscape; it is a thoughtful reflection on the passage of time and the lingering spirit of old Košice, rendered beautifully through Bauer's artistic vision.
