More about this artwork

In "Periféria Košíc," Konštantín Bauer captures the quiet, rolling outskirts of Košice in 1925, offering a glimpse into a serene yet somber landscape. The painting portrays a cluster of humble homes nestled amid undulating terrain, their rustic charm highlighted by Bauer’s distinctive brushwork. The softly heaving hills are draped in subtle shadow, suggesting the coolness of an overcast day, while the muted palette of greens, blues, and earth tones evokes a sense of peaceful isolation. Each element in Bauer’s composition, from the barren branches reaching towards the grey sky to the quaint whitewashed walls of the buildings, contributes to an overall atmosphere of quiet simplicity. The artist’s choice of perspective places viewers as silent observers of this secluded scene, perhaps standing upon one of the gentle hills, looking down on the scattered homes."Periféria Košíc" is more than just a depiction of a place; it is an invitation to reflect on the tranquil solitude found in the peripheries of urban life. Konštantín Bauer’s work captures not only a specific locale but also a timeless, universal feeling of being on the outskirts, both literally and metaphorically.
