More about this artwork

"In the Drawing-room at Haiko" is a captivating oil sketch by the Finnish artist Albert Edelfelt, depicting an intimate moment in a sunlit drawing room. In this warm and fluid composition, Edelfelt captures two women engaged in the gentle art of music-making. The woman seated at the piano, her attention focused and fingers poised over the keys, is elegantly dressed in a flowing gown that reflects the light filtering through the room. Beside her, another woman, possibly providing guidance or simply enjoying the music, stands close to the piano, observing the player's hands. The painting shines with Edelfelt's skillful use of light to accentuate the serene ambiance of the room, and his loose, impressionistic brushstrokes create a sense of immediacy and spontaneity. In the background, a rich tapestry of greens seen through an open window contrasts with the warm tones inside, reinforcing the secluded and tranquil setting. This scene is more than just a musical moment; it is a snapshot of peaceful coexistence, of shared interests and harmonious surroundings.
