More about this artwork

Albert Edelfelt's watercolor "A Soldier in a Finnish Wartime Uniform" captures a moment of stillness in the life of a soldier clad in historically significant attire. The artwork vividly details the uniform's elements, from the blue jacket adorned with golden buttons and trimmings to the light-hued trousers that contrast starkly with the polished black boots. The soldier's attire is completed with a high, cylindrical shako hat featuring a badge emblematic of the era.The poised stance of the soldier, with a sword at his side and hands gripping its hilt, communicates a sense of readiness and duty. The soldier's expression, subtly rendered, suggests a mixture of resolve and contemplation, hinting at the personal experience behind the uniform.Edelfelt's masterful use of watercolor highlights the textures of the fabric and the gleam of the metallic elements, bringing depth and realism to the composition.
