More about this artwork

Step into a bygone era with Karl Wiener's vibrant work, "Küchenhaus Hundsdorf," painted around 1925. This delightful piece showcases a quaint, pastoral German home, enveloped in the tranquility of rural life. The painting draws the viewer into a serene landscape dominated by an appealing two-story house, characterized by its textured walls indicative of years weathered yet gracefully standing. The house is adorned with shutters in lively shades of green and a warm, inviting yellowish facade that seems to glow under the soft sunlight. Its rustic charm is further enhanced by a sloping red tiled roof, which captures shadows and sunlight perfectly.Around the home, we see a well-tended garden area bordered by a simple, wooden fence. Small details like a wheelbarrow, a ladder leaning casually against the fence, and a wooden table hint at daily domestic activities, possibly a quiet afternoon break or preparation for garden upkeep. The presence of lush greenery and mature trees suggests a harmonious blend of home and nature, making it a cherished sanctuary from the larger world. The sky above is a canvas of fluffy clouds drifting across a clear blue backdrop, lending a sense of calm and timelessness to the scene. This painting not only captures the essence of a place but also evokes a feeling of peaceful solitude and simple pleasures.Karl Wiener’s "Küchenhaus Hundsdorf" is more than just a depiction of a house; it is a portal to the past, invoking nostalgia and a deep appreciation for the beauty of simplicity.

Karl Wiener was an Austrian draftsman , graphic artist and photo montage artist. Because of his political and time-critical montages of the 1930s and 1940s, he was posthumously referred to as the Austrian John Heartfield on the occasion of the major retrospective on his estate in the Wien Museum.
