More about this artwork

Karl Wiener's evocative charcoal drawing, "Männlicher Akt II," showcases the exceptional skill of the artist in capturing the human form. This work of art depicts a seated male figure, whose robust and defined musculature echoes the classical tradition of representing strength and vitality. The pose is dynamic yet contemplative, conveying a sense of movement and poise that draws the viewer into a deeper regard of the human experience. The light shading and subtle play of shadows enhance the three-dimensional quality of the figure, emphasizing the anatomical details and the thoughtful expression of the subject. Wiener’s mastery in using simple tools to create a complex and lifelike portrait not only celebrates the physical attributes of the human body but also invites viewers to ponder the inner life of the depicted individual.

Karl Wiener was an Austrian draftsman , graphic artist and photo montage artist. Because of his political and time-critical montages of the 1930s and 1940s, he was posthumously referred to as the Austrian John Heartfield on the occasion of the major retrospective on his estate in the Wien Museum.
