More about this artwork

"Autumn Fields at Newport" by Samuel Colman is a beautiful representation of the tranquil countryside during the fall season. The painting captures an expansive view of the fields at Newport, bathed in the soft, mellow light of autumn. In the foreground, we see a rustic barn and a wooden structure, possibly used for storing hay or as a shelter for farm animals. This aspect of the painting details the agricultural lifestyle prevalent during the era.A cluster of cows grazes peacefully in the fields, lending life and movement to the serene landscape. Their presence, along with scattered boulders and tufts of grass, adds to the rustic charm of the scene. The background is marked by gentle undulations of the land and distant houses, which dot the horizon beneath a clear sky. The palette is predominantly warm with touches of cool blues and greys, suggesting the crispness of the incoming colder weather.Colman's technique uses light brushstrokes and a harmonious blend of colors to evoke a sense of peacefulness and the slow fading of the season.
