More about this artwork

Artist: Lilly WaltherLilly Walther's impressionistic landscape, "Vaade Jalta ja Gursuffi vahel," beautifully captures a serene view along the Crimean coast, between the towns of Yalta and Gurzuf. This painting, composed in 1918, is a vibrant expression of natural beauty and tranquility. The artwork features a sweeping view of the Black Sea, bordered by rugged cliffs on the left. The cliffs, boldly textured, guide the viewer's eye towards a distant, majestic rock formation rising from the sea. This natural monument stands as a central point of interest, bathed in the soft light of what appears to be early morning or late afternoon. The foreground is adorned with wild, blooming yellow flowers, adding a touch of brightness and life to the composition. These flowers not only enhance the visual appeal with their vivid color but also introduce a sense of depth and dimension to the scene.Walther's use of light and shadow, combined with her loose, expressive brushstrokes, imbues the scene with a dynamic yet peaceful atmosphere. The expansive sky, filled with gentle swirls of blue and light brushstrokes, mirrors the calmness of the sea below."Vaade Jalta ja Gursuffi vahel" is a testament to Walther’s ability to capture the essence of a landscape, transporting viewers to this picturesque segment of the Crimean coast.
