More about this artwork

The painting "Dead Hare, Study" by Albert Edelfelt, created in 1873, presents a singular and striking portrayal of a hare. This work features the lifeless body of a hare, rendered with a remarkable attention to texture and detail. The hare is shown against a rich, warm brown background that contrasts sharply with the pale, almost silvery white fur of the hare itself.Edelfelt's meticulous brushwork highlights the soft fur of the hare and the delicate features of its form, emphasizing the stillness and fragility of death. The positioning of the hare, with one limb hanging downwards and the rest of the body aligned in a gentle curve, adds a sense of movement and naturalism to the composition. This painting not only demonstrates Edelfelt's skill in rendering animal figures but also evokes a contemplative mood, inviting the viewer to reflect on the themes of mortality and the transience of life.
