More about this artwork
Explore the contemplative beauty of Samuel Jessurun de Mesquita's "Vrouwenkop met half gesloten ogen in profiel naar links," created on November 16, 1943. This intricate drawing captures the essence of lyrical simplicity and emotional depth, characteristic of de Mesquita's work. The artwork features the profile of a woman's head, her eyes half-closed in a serene, introspective moment. The composition is striking in its elegance and minimalism. Sharp, clean lines define the contours of the woman’s face and neck, while a detailed, almost mechanical array of patterns fills the background, creating an intriguing contrast between the organic and the geometric. The use of negative space accentuates the woman's peaceful expression, inviting the viewer to pause and reflect. It's a quietly powerful piece that showcases de Mesquita’s skill in blending abstract elements with human figures, making it not only a visual but also an emotional journey for its audience.
