More about this artwork
Welcome to a delightful glimpse of a morning scenario captured by Carl Larsson in his painting "Cock-a-doodle-do, it’s seven o’clock." This delightful watercolor illustration encapsulates a serene moment typical of Larsson's work, displaying both warmth and the simplicity of everyday life.In this tranquil bedroom scene, we observe a young child sitting up in bed, seemingly stirred from sleep by the morning call of a rooster, which we can infer from the painting's title. The room is bathed in a soft, natural light that peeks through the wide window, hinting at the morning’s freshness outside. Delicately painted plants adorn the wallpaper, adding a touch of nature's tranquility to the indoor environment. To the left, the open window showcases a bird perched silently, possibly enjoying the calm of the early hour, while a vibrant stained-glass panel adds a splash of color to the otherwise muted palette of the room. Across from the bed, a painting of a townscape hangs, contrasting the natural elements with hints of human habitation. The details in the room, like the discarded shoes and the casually draped clothes, suggest the realism and intimacy of a lived-in space, a characteristic signature in Larsson's homely scenes. A saddlebag tossed near the foot of the bed indicates perhaps a previous day's adventure or the day’s forthcoming activities."Cock-a-doodle-do, it’s seven o’clock" not only offers a peek into early 20th century Swedish interiors but also reflects a universal moment—waking up to a new day.
