More about this artwork

"Sceau de Salomon 2," created in 1896 by Maurice Pillard Verneuil, is an exquisite example of Art Nouveau design, demonstrating the artist's fascination with natural forms and symmetrical patterns. This painting embodies the movement's ideal of integrating beauty and utility, making it more than just artwork, but a celebration of aesthetic function. The composition consists of three distinct panels, each with their own unique but harmoniously interconnected designs. The top panel is a lush tableau of interlacing plant stems and heart-shaped motifs, leading down to elegant white and lavender flowers set against a pale green background. This intricate pattern shows Verneuil's keen eye for nature and his ability to stylize natural forms in a way that feels both organic and meticulously planned.Beneath the first, the middle band features a more subdued, linear design with pale green foliage against a light turquoise background. This strip acts almost like a visually calming element between the rich complexity above and below it.The lower panel displays a robust and warmer palette with its deep red backdrop adorned with large green leaves and navy berries. This part of the composition has a dense and earthy feel, providing a strong visual anchor to the overall design.Maurice Pillard Verneuil’s "Sceau de Salomon 2" is not only a celebration of natural beauty and ornamental design but also an illustration of the seamless integration of art into everyday life as envisioned by the Art Nouveau movement.
