More about this artwork

In the heart of Eastern Slovakia, nestled within the historical city of Košice, a serene landscape is immortalized in Konštantín Bauer’s painting "Zákutie Košíc”, created in 1928. This artwork offers viewers a tranquil glimpse into a secluded corner of Košice, featuring a vivid yet muted composition of an intimate neighborhood scene. The painting delicately balances between realism and abstraction, highlighting Bauer’s unique style. Textured brushstrokes and earthy tones of greens, browns, and greys invite the viewer to explore the lush verdancy, which seems to envelop the small, quaint houses tucked slightly out of view. Bauer's use of light and shadow creates depth and adds a quiet dynamism to the scene, suggesting a moment of stillness before the beginning or end of a day.A winding path draws the eye inward, leading to the heart of the painting where modest homes are nestled amongst the trees. The architectural details are minimal yet expressive, suggesting the peaceful, everyday life behind the walls. This less traveled corner of Košice is depicted with a palpable affection, reminiscent of a personal memory or a cherished place."Zákutie Košíc" is not just a depiction of a physical location but a canvas capturing the essence of quiet moments and simple beauties. Konštantín Bauer’s artwork is a celebration of the slower pace of life, encouraging contemplation and a deeper connection with the places we inhabit. This painting is an invitation to pause and appreciate the hidden corners of the world, often overlooked yet brimming with stories and quiet spectacle.
