More about this artwork

Featured on our gallery's online exhibit is "Hlava muža z profilu," a compelling sketch by the celebrated artist Konštantín Bauer, crafted between the years 1924 to 1927. This piece showcases Bauer’s mastery in portraying human expressions and profiles minimally yet expressively. The sketch depicts the side profile of a man's head, rendered with delicate and fluid pencil strokes that capture the intricate details of the subject's facial features. The artist's use of line is both gentle and decisive, outlining the contours of the man’s face, his sharp nose, deep-set eye, and the subtle arch of his lips. Shadows and lines are utilized adeptly to hint at the man’s aged features, possibly reflecting a deeper narrative about his life experiences or the emotion he carries.Bauer’s minimalistic approach not only highlights his technical skill but also evokes a sense of intimacy and contemplation. The sparse use of detail directs viewers to focus on the raw essence of the subject, encouraging a personal connection and interpretation. This piece is a remarkable example of modern sketch art from the early 20th century, demonstrating how simple lines can convey complex human emotions and stories.
