More about this artwork

Artist: Konštantín BauerKonštantín Bauer's painting "Na periférii Košíc" (On the Outskirts of Košice, 1926) captures a compelling view of the periphery of Košice, offering a unique exploration of the city's outskirts through vivid color and expressive forms. Bauer's work is known for its intense emotionality and the ability to evoke a strong sense of place, and this painting is no exception. The composition features an array of houses with slanting rooftops that converge towards the center, leading the viewer's eye to the heart of the rural settlement. The buildings, depicted in dark, earthy tones, contrast starkly with the bright, almost luminous greenery surrounding them, which adds a lively touch to the otherwise somber palette. This use of color not only highlights the organic presence within the built environment but also serves to reflect the timeless interplay between nature and human habitation.Distinguished by its dynamic brushwork, the painting conveys a rustic, almost rugged texture, suggesting the harsh realities of life on the outskirts. Shadows and highlights are dramatically cast across the surfaces, creating a sense of depth and volume within the confined space of the canvas."Na periférii Košíc" immerses viewers in an intimate, yet powerful, depiction of Košice’s periphery, embodying the spirit of a place on the cusp of urban and rural life. This masterpiece is not just a geographical representation but a profound articulation of cultural and environmental boundaries.
