More about this artwork

"Paris in Snow" (1887) by Albert Edelfelt captures a serene, wintery moment in the City of Lights. This exquisite painting presents a high vantage panorama of Paris blanketed in snow, underscoring the quiet and still atmosphere that comes with a fresh white covering. Edelfelt employs a delicate palette of muted blues, whites, and grays to convey the chill of winter, while soft brushstrokes give the cityscape a somewhat dreamy quality. The view is expansive, looking over rooftops dusted with snow and bare trees lined along wintry streets. Small figures can be seen in the distance, braving the cold weather, adding a touch of life to the frozen landscape. The smoke drifting from chimneys suggests the cozy warmth waiting inside the homes. This painting not only showcases Edelfelt's skill in handling light and atmosphere but also evokes the quiet beauty of Paris during the winter months.
