More about this artwork

The image you provided appears to be a black and white sketch, however, it does not seem to match the description provided as a painting titled "Woman" by Leo Gestel. Instead, the image depicts an abstract form resembling an organic-shaped object, perhaps a fragment of a sculpture or a natural element like a root or bone. The sketch is executed with a series of intricate lines and hatching techniques, which create textures and contours on the object's surface. The signature on the sketch reads "Roc S.," indicating that it may have been created by a different artist than Leo Gestel, or it could simply be a tag or part of the artistic expression. This inconsistency suggests there might be confusion or an error in the title or attribution you mentioned. It's important to double-check the source or additional information about the artwork for accurate details.

Leo Gestel (1881–1941) was a Dutch visual artist, painter, and illustrator. His father was a director of an art school and his uncle painted with the famous Vincent van Gogh. He came across the Parisian avant-garde movement and developed his eclectic style through experimentation with various art forms including cubism, expressionism, futurism, and post-impressionism. He is considered one of the leading Dutch modernism artists, along with Piet Mondrian. The majority of Gestel’s work was lost in a fire.
