More about this artwork

The painting "Kunniata Ukko Klercker Ijät Päivät Saakohon" by Albert Edelfelt, created during 1897-1900, presents a captivating nocturnal military scene. In this composition, the focal point is an elderly individual wearing a large tricorne hat and a cloak, sitting astride a horse. This person exudes a dignified air, perhaps indicative of a high-ranking officer or a figure of authority within the context depicted. The background is filled with uniform soldiers, likely infantry, standing at attention in a parade formation. Their presence, characterized by uniformed attire and fixed bayonets, suggests a ceremonious event or a military review. The setting appears to be at night, under a starry sky, possibly in a wooded area, as suggested by the shadowy tree figures to the left. This image evokes a strong sense of solemnity and respect, possibly aiming to honor the rider who might be a retired or legendary military leader. The artwork is rendered in a monochromatic palette, which enhances the nighttime atmosphere and adds a timeless, almost theatrical quality to the scene. The frame surrounding the image is elegantly simple, emphasizing the solemn and formal tone of the depicted scene.
