More about this artwork

The painting depicts a stylized nature scene, set against a textured lilac background. Dominating the composition are elongated, sinuous trees with mossy green and jet black trunks that twist upward. The foliage is sparse, with whimsical leaves dotted in greenish hues, some adorned with intricate, lighter patterns resembling lacework. Delicate branches sprout in all directions, speckled with small, white blossomy clusters give a sense of softness against the dark, bold silhouettes of the trees. These elements together contribute to an ethereal, dreamlike atmosphere.

Emile-Alain Séguy was a French 20th century artist. He produced eleven albums inspired by insects, butterflies and nature, with intricate Art Nouveau and brightly colored Art Deco geometric floral patterns. He used a unique printing technique called Pochoir, the method of applying pigment to paper through stencils.
