More about this artwork

This painting by Mantas Daujotas, titled "The Orange," features a subdued palette predominantly composed of greys, whites, and blues, lending it a cool, serene atmosphere. The focal point of the composition is a traditional paneled door painted in a soft blue-grey hue. The real intrigue stems from the depiction of five bright orange orbs that appear to be floating or gently moving in the air, positioned in front of and around the door. The position and dynamics of the oranges inject a sense of motion into the otherwise still and quiet scene, creating a fascinating contrast. The oranges emit a vibrancy against the muted colors of the door and walls, drawing the viewer’s eye directly to them. The shadows cast by the oranges suggest a specific light source, but their floating nature gives the piece a surreal feel.Aside from the immediate visual elements, the painting may evoke a sense of mystery or whimsy due to the unusual juxtaposition of floating fruit and an ordinary interior setting. The artist's use of realistic details in rendering the door and the surrounding architecture accentuates the surrealism of the floating oranges, inviting viewers to ponder the narrative or symbolic meanings underlying this unexpected element.

Mantas Daujotas (b. 1993) – painter and musician based in Kaunas. As of 2017 a certified bachelor in painting with a couple of personal and several group exhibitions in a short period of time he’s considered a promising young artist. His paintings showcase a wide range of different subjects, although very rarely a human figure. Dark corridors, spaces stuffed with silence and rays of light, carrying a mystical narrative – these are some of the more representative characteristics of Daujotas’ paintings.
