More about this artwork
"Reclining Nude" by Jules Pascin is a captivating piece featuring a woman lying down in a relaxed pose. This drawing, executed primarily in ink with washes that provide varying tones and depth, captures the soft forms of the human body using sweeping, fluid lines and subtle shading. The woman's expression is serene, with a slight tilt of the head and gaze that seems introspective. The texture of the paper adds a warm, almost intimate feel to the piece. There's an impressionistic quality in the handling of the medium, evoking both the physical presence and the ephemeral essence of the subject. Pascin's style here reflects his ability to convey sensuality and vulnerability through minimal yet expressive strokes.

Nudes, street scenes and landscapes of women and tropical locations by Bulgarian-born American painter Jules Pascin (1885-1930). Born to an affluent family, Pascin was educated in Austria and Germany before moving to Paris in 1905. It was there that he became associated with the Modernist movement. He attached himself to the human condition and was known for painting portraits of nude and half-dressed women. He stands in the grand tradition of the romantic, bohemian artist.
