More about this artwork
Titled "La relève du matin" and crafted in 1928 by the highly celebrated artist Robert Delaunay, this artwork projects a unique engagement with form and abstraction that Delaunay is renowned for. Notably distinct from his colorful representations of cities and urban landscapes, this piece veers towards a more monochromatic palette, employing a series of intricate, swirling patterns that captivate the viewer. The painting features an enthralling composition of dynamic, curvilinear shapes that seem to float and whirl across the canvas in a rhythmic dance. The use of repetitive circles and loops generates a vibrant energy, perhaps suggesting the movement and vitality of morning—the waking of the day, as hinted by the title. The stark contrast of dark and light areas enhances the depth and motion, imbuing the piece with a pulsating life of its own.Delaunay’s technique here is meticulous and textured, as the dotted strokes build up the forms and contribute to an overall sense of vibration and flux.
