More about this artwork
Vilhelm Hammershøi's evocative work, titled "Hjørnet Af En Bondegård" (Corner of a Farm), transports viewers to a serene yet somber rural setting through his masterful use of muted tones and subtle light. This painting depicts a segment of an old farmhouse, characterized by its minimalist architectural features and a palette dominated by earthy browns and soft whites. The building’s plain façade is interrupted by starkly contrasting dark windows and a single doorway, drawing attention to the interplay of light and shadow—a hallmark of Hammershøi's style. The textured brushwork enhances the tactile feel of aged walls and a heavy thatched roof, suggesting a quiet history etched into the building's surface.
