More about this artwork
"From Refsnæs" by Vilhelm Hammershøi is a serene depiction of the Danish landscape, showcasing the artist's famed subtlety and penchant for muted color palettes. This painting presents a tranquil expanse of rolling hills that gently merge into the horizon where the pale, almost ethereal sky meets the calm sea. The sparse composition emphasizes solitude, evoking a meditative quietude. Hammershøi's brushwork, with its delicate and almost imperceptible transitions of color, communicates the vast, open space of the Danish countryside. The understated presence of a lighthouse in the distance not only adds a focal point but also symbolizes guidance and a silent watchfulness over the natural scene.
