More about this artwork

Magnus Enckell's vibrant pastel work, "Kaupunkikuva, puistoa, ajureita" (1910-1911), invites viewers on a delightful journey into an early 20th-century park scene brimming with life and color. In this piece, Enckell offers a glimpse of a park in an urban setting, vividly capturing the essence of daily city life mingled with the serene touch of nature.Central to the scene are horse-drawn carriages that add a dynamic flair, suggesting the movement and flow of urban life during this period. The carriages and horses are rendered with swift, colorful strokes, which convey a sense of motion and vitality. Behind them, the park with lush, rounded treetops dances under the sky, portrayed in swirls of blue, green, and purple. On the horizon, the outlines of city buildings peek through the canopy of trees, linking the quiet park life to the bustling urban environment just beyond. Enckell's use of bright, contrasting colors and quick, confident strokes creates an almost dreamlike atmosphere, reflecting both the activity of the city and the tranquility of the park.
