More about this artwork

Titled "From my Window in Cannes," this captivating painting by Albert Edelfelt, created in 1891, offers viewers a serene and picturesque glimpse of Cannes through the artist's eyes, captured from the vantage point of a window. The composition masterfully portrays the tranquil beauty of the Mediterranean setting. In the foreground, the painting presents a dusky balcony railing, which frames the expansive view beyond it and subtly invites the viewer into the scene. The eye travels across a sunlit promenade where various figures engage in leisurely activities, some strolling and others simply soaking in the sun and sea atmosphere. The azure waters of the sea create a vibrant contrast against the warm tones of the sandy beach, drawing attention to the rhythmic play of light and color. The backdrop features a panoramic view of Cannes, with its picturesque architecture nestled between the sea and the rolling hills in the distance. A lighthouse stands prominently at the edge of the water, serving as a focal point and adding a sense of depth and scale to the scene. The play of natural light across the canvas, together with Edelfelt's fluid brush strokes, captures the dynamic yet peaceful essence of this coastal landscape. This painting not only depicts a beautiful view but also evokes a sense of serene contemplation, reflecting the artist's connection to the place and moment he captured so artfully.
