More about this artwork

"Apple Trees in Eragny, Sunny Morning" is a captivating painting created in 1903 by the renowned impressionist artist Camille Pissarro. This charming landscape captures the essence of rural life at Pissarro's home in the village of Eragny, where he moved in 1884.The painting is suffused with the clear, soft light of a sunny morning. Pissarro masterfully uses vibrant and diverse brushstrokes to create the texture of the lush green grass dotted with wildflowers and the dense foliage of the apple trees. The scene is peaceful and bucolic, featuring a large haystack at the left, which adds a rustic touch to the composition.A figure, likely a local villager, is seen tending to the garden, depicted in a relaxed pose that conveys a harmonious interaction with nature. The simple wooden fence and the scattered buildings in the background further enhance the serene, pastoral feel of the painting.Through "Apple Trees in Eragny, Sunny Morning," Pissarro not only showcases his skill in capturing natural light and shade but also his ongoing commitment to celebrating and documenting rural landscapes and agricultural practices.

Blessed are they who see beautiful things in humble places where other people see nothing. — Camille Pissarro

Camille Pissarro (1830-1903) was born on St.Thomas (now the US Virgin Islands) to a Portuguese father and a Dominican mother. He went to Paris to study art at Ecole des Beaux-Arts. He was an early pioneer of pointillism and neo-impressionism and later became a mentor of many famous impressionist painters including Cezanne, Manet, Renoir, and Gauguin. His paintings depicted rural and urban French landscapes and lifestyle. Many of his works politically captured images of peasants and laborers. Today, he is considered the father of impressionism.
