Magnus Enckell, known for his works that often explore themes of beauty and mysticism, employs a soft, sketchy technique which beautifully captures the ethereal and contemplative nature of the subject. The composition focuses on the angel, whose head is bowed gently over the violin, suggesting a moment of deep concentration and peacefulness. The angel's features are softly defined, enhancing the overall feeling of tranquility. The wings of the angel are depicted with sweeping, graceful lines, suggesting movement and a certain lightness. The background remains undefined, sketchy, which directs the viewer’s attention solely on the angel and the music being played, almost inviting the viewer to imagine the melody that could be flowing from the scene. The drawing, executed in pencil, makes use of shading to give depth to the figure and to subtly suggest the texture of the feathers and the softness of the light surrounding the angel.Overall, the artwork can be interpreted as a celebration of music’s divine or transcendent qualities, a common theme in works depicting angels. Enckell's use of light and shadow, combined with the gentle posture of the angel, evokes a sense of calm and spiritual richness.
