More about this artwork

This drawing by Albert Edelfelt, titled "Seisova Miesmalli, Miekka Kädessä, Akatemiaharjoitelma, 1874," depicts a male model standing with his back to the viewer. The model is holding a sword in his right hand, which is positioned alongside his body, and he appears to be adjusting his hair with his left hand. The figure stands poised beside a block, probably used as a prop or a rest during the posing session. The artwork is executed with careful attention to detail, particularly in illustrating the muscles and contours of the human body, suggesting that this work was likely intended as a study of human anatomy and posture. Edelfelt's mastery in rendering the textures of the skin and the naturalism of the pose are evident, indicative of classical academic training. The composition and the handling of the figure reflect a deep understanding of human anatomy, as well as the artist's skill in capturing the subtleties of human form and movement. The overall softness and precision of the pencil work enhances the three-dimensional effect of the form, making this a visually compelling piece.
