More about this artwork

Welcome to a glimpse into the serene ambience of *Autumn Still Life in the Artist’s Studio (1897)* by Carl Moll, a remarkable depiction of tranquility and abundance. This painting invites viewers into an artist's studio, bathed in the soft, natural light that filters through a large window pane, divided into squares, framing a tranquil garden scene outside. At the heart of the composition is a richly arranged still life on a finely carved, marble-topped table. A grand assortment of autumnal bounty is scattered elegantly. The centerpiece is a large, sumptuously detailed turkey, its feathers intricately painted to capture a realistic texture, possibly suggesting a celebration like Thanksgiving. Surrounding the turkey are lush clusters of grapes, scattering their richness across the table. Crisp apples add a pop of red, while a cut open melon and pears bring soft yellows and greens to the palette.Adding to the opulence are golden loaves of bread and a delicate glass of water that subtly reflects the light, showcasing Moll’s skill in rendering different textures and materials. Underneath, a draped white cloth adds a gentle flow to the otherwise structured composition, providing a contrast that emphasizes the solidity of the table and the abundance it supports. In the background, beyond the window, the scene of a person leisurely strolling in the garden adds a narrative element, infusing the composition with a sense of life extending beyond the immediate surroundings.Carl Moll’s *Autumn Still Life* is more than just a visual feast; it is a vivid portrayal of abundance and the beauty of everyday objects, rendered with a precision and care that draws the viewer into a moment of peaceful reflection.
